Typoically you want 10psi of oil pressure for every 1000RPM. This ensures that there is significant oil making its way to the journal - not that there is 10psi more support in the bearing for every 1000RPM. The oil itself is the bearing - you just need to make sure you have enough oil getting there. The rod bearings are just a weak point and I would say that eliminating the piston cooling ability is going to offer only a disadvantage. There's plenty of oil getting to the entire engine, its just that the rod bearings are a little too small.
